K Foundation Burn a Million Quid was a publicity stunt on 23 August 1994, in which the K Foundation (an art duo consisting of Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty) burnt one million pounds sterling in cash on the Scottish island of Jura. This money represented the bulk of the K Foundation's funds, earned by Drummond and Cauty as The KLF, one of the United Kingdom's most successful pop groups of the early 1990s. The duo have never fully explained their motivations for the burning.

The incineration was recorded on a Hi-8 video camera by K Foundation collaborator Gimpo. In August 1995, the film—Watch the K Foundation Burn a Million Quid[1]—was toured around the UK, with Drummond and Cauty engaging each audience in debate about the burning and its meaning. In November 1995, the duo pledged to dissolve the K Foundation and to refrain from public discussion of the burning for a period of 23 years.

A book—K Foundation Burn A Million Quid, edited and compiled by collaborator Chris Brook—was published by ellipsis Books in 1997, compiling stills from the film, accounts of events and viewer reactions. The book also contains an image of a single house brick that was manufactured from the fire's ashes.

Ik vond het echt een geweldig boek, maar voor de mensen die alleen maar gewend zijn aan de liefdesromans is dit een stap te ver denk ik.

"The K Foundation

The K Foundation is made up of two people. One of them drew hobbit posters for Arena, the publishers, and made a lot of money from that. Before being the K Foundation they were KLF, a succesful dance band of the 80s and early 90s. As KLF, they laughed and sneered at the pop music industry but made good records anyway, and they published a book on how to make a hit. They were fed up with the music world. They thought it was shallow. So they started putting on subversive art events instead. They mounted a campaign to subvert one of the Turner Prizes, offering £40,000, which was twice the amount of the real Turner Prize, to the worst artist instead of the best one. They gave it to Rachel Whiteread. She turned it down at first but then took the money and gave it out in bits to other artists.

Then the K Foundation burned a million pounds in real money, and because it was about the same time as their Turner Prize event it all seemed connected, something to do with money and hype and the public's credulity and the end of art."

de film over het maken van hun bangelijk album 'chill out'
raar gasten, da ziet ge in da filmke pas

en natuurlijk ne nest vinyl en cd's

vroeger haddek nog 2 t-shirts ook, maar die zijn verloren gegaan (eentje met de 2 grote speakers in T geplaatst, en de andere was met vooraan KLF en achteraan het logo (piramide en radio)

indertijd ook een lijst toegestuurd gekregen waarop al hun releases stonden, en het aantal in omloop
zo stond er dat er van hun illegale album 1987 toch nog 3 zouden rondfladderen in de wereld

Contrary to what you might expect, this isn't the original "1987" with the samples removed; rather, it's as if someone is just playing the original album and pressing a 'mute' button whenever anything not by the Jams is playing. This results in some amusing bits, like 3 minutes of silence where the "Top Of The Pops"-sampling section would have been. Worth getting for amusement value, and because it's the highest-definition pressing of the beautiful song "Me Ru Con"

Ik heb er slechts 1 plaat van: The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu - It's Grim Up North - maar een ijzersterke release...

ik zocht lang een plaatje Highlander, van Utah Saints, bleek het een cj bolland remix te zijn, maar ik heb de juiste nog altijd niet gevonden. zoals je zegt, it rings a bell, but that's it
